Tosha Patel – SAAWA Science award

She is the valedictorian of her class in Farmingdale High School. Board of Education award, Best overall student with outstanding accomplishments; Seventh place in regional championship at Science Olympiad competition; Helped with Sandy Beach clean-up; AHRC walks; Field of Honor at Library; Ambassadors and Girls Learn; Manage a volleyball tournament; Attended a lecture on women empowerment in New York City (United Nations), learned different stories about women’s inferiority in different regions of the world; Professor for a day at Cold Spring Harbor Student Services; Science Fair: organized and managed the whole fair; Quiz Bowl ; Mathletes: School wide math competition, 11th place in Nassau County.

Monica Daria – Intel Science Talent Semifinalist 2015 – SAAWA Stem award

She is a valedictorian of her class at Mineola High school. She won second place in LISEF, won an award in LISC, won second place in NYSSEF in environmental science category; played flute in marching band; played varsity football and basketball; won Strive for Excellence award in 11th grade; won Nassau County Scholar athlete award and New York State Scholar Athlete Award in 12th grade. Volunteered at INN, Pediatrics Dept. in Winthrop Hospital and Meadow Drive Summer school.

Niyati Desai – SAAWA Stem award

She is a senior at Ward Melville High School Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2nd place ( a minor planet named after her) in the category of Physics and Astronomy; Siemens Competition Regional Finalist; Simons Fellowship for high school research at Stony Brook University; Math Kangaroo: National individual competition- 3rd in New York state in 2013; 2nd in state and 11th in nation in 2014; 1st in State and 13th on national level in 2015; Intel LISEF (Long Island Science and Engineering Fair) first place in Physics category; Science Olympiad national level; Suffolk County Math Competition top 5 places in junior and senior divisions for the team category; National Merit Scholar Commendation Award ; AP Scholar with Distinction Award; NYSSMA music performance level 6 for violin studies; Chamber Ensemble Orchestra and School Orchestra ; Soccer at Three Village Soccer Club ; Indian Cultural Dance.

Sanskriti Bimal – SAAWA Journalism Award

Sanskriti is a junior at Mineola High School. She is also an author, a columnist and a passionate advocate for educating the underprivileged girl child. She holds several key leadership positions at school, such as Captain of the school cheer squad, Vice President of student office, an Editorial position besides others in the local community, all while maintaining a high GPA in academically rigorous courses. Recently she was inducted into the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society.

Uma Kanth – SAAWA Science (Junior) Award

She is a junior at Jericho High School. First place in NYSSEF; State Finalist for STANYS NYS Science Congress; Long Island Science Congress: Most Distinguished Categorical Project (Third Place Biology) ;Long Island Science Congress: LISELA Alphonse J. Campbell Memorial Award; First place in Long Island Science and Engineering Fair JV Description; 2014: First Place American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Queen/Long Island Research Competition; Finalist for NYU Technology, Culture, and Society High School Competition Description: “The Green Team Takes New York (Fighting the damage of infrastructure due to acid rain)” from events such as Hurricane Sandy.

Francisca Fernandes – SAAWA Leadership and character Award

She is a junior at Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She has volunteered in dentistry, pediatrics, maternity and physical rehab units of Elmhurst Hospital Center. She did internship at Weill Cornell Center/New York Presbytarian Hospital. She extends herself to tutoring students and volunteers at the local police precinct. She is a model student and community advocate. She has won several certificates of Academic Excellence.

Aishwarya R. Madan SAAWA Community Service award

She is currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in General Psychology at CUNY. She got her Bachelor degree, majoring in Psychology, from Stonybrook University. She graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High school. Among the many volunteer services that she has done over the years, what stands out the most is her being a part of Port Washington Fire Department Fire Medic Co.No.1 Emergency Medical Services for the last five years and EMT for four years.

Swati Madankumar – SAAWA Rising star

She is a ninth grader in Jericho Senior High School. Elected 2015-2016 Sophomore Officer of Debate Club; Played for Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team as a freshman; Writer for Indians 4 Social Change online writing platform; Contributed to school-wide literary magazine, Pegasus; Inducted into Tri-M Music Honor Society; Learns Bharatanatyam and performed in school-wide cultural show, Diversity Day; Honorable Mention in 2015 Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project’s 8th National Essay Contest; Full marks on Level 4 Violin NYSSMA; Participant in DuPont Challenge and DNA Day contests; Gold Medal Placement in 2014 Level 1 National Spanish Exam; Certificate of Recognition in 2014 NCTE Promising Young Writers Program.
